UNPRECEDENTED SUCCESS OF CEV EUROVOLLEY WOMEN IN BELGIUM
Yesterday, the Turkish Volleyball women crowned themselves the brand-new European champions in a swirling Palais 12 in Brussels.
More than 1,000,000 euros worth of tickets were sold. This exceeded wildest predictions.
No fewer than 9,000 frenzied Serbian and Turkish supporters were the privileged witnesses of a thrilling match between the two superpowers.
Over the past two weeks, more than 50,000 fans attended the Women's European Volleyball Championship Interlands in Ghent (group phase) and Brussels (from the 1/8th finals onwards).
The Belgian national team reached a creditable 1/8th final against Türkiye, the later champions.
The European Women's Volleyball Championship proved to be an unprecedented success.
Organiser Topvolley Belgium is pleased with the result and impact of the CEV Eurovolley Women:
"We not only turned a difficult page for the Yellow Tigers after a gruelling and tedious period (related to the previous coach, ed). National coach Kris Vansnick has done a very good job in breathing new life into the team. The Yellow Tigers are alive again," says Managing Director Geert De Dobbeleer. "The image of our country has also been promoted in a wonderful way in Europe and Asia. CEV Eurovolley was broadcast in more than 40 countries and watched by millions of sports fans. I am very grateful to Sport Vlaanderen, the Brussels Region, the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the cities of Ghent and Brussels for their support." continued the Managing Director "Furthermore, I thank the partners, the staff of Topvolley Belgium and the many volunteers for their great work. Without them, this world-class event could never have taken place" concludes De Dobbeleer.
Yesterday's final, on top of the Television broadcast, was broadcast in 55 public venues in Turkey yesterday. For example, the football stadium of Besiktas football club in Istanbul (capacity: 42,000) was packed to watch the match live.
We are already noticing that the impact of the European Championship is causing a significant increase in the inflow of new members. Interest is particularly high among 13, 14-year-olds.
Topvolley Belgium will communicate the exact figures after the registration period.
